Frequently Asked Questions
WHY SHOULD I JOIN PAO ?
how do i join?
PAO is easy to join. Just fill out an application and pay the annual dues of $40.00. Thanks to your membership dues, PAO can continue to grow to offer more support to its members. Our membership year runs from January 1 to December 31, though you can join any time.
do i have to live in oregon?
You do not need to live in Oregon; in fact, we have members from abroad and throughout the United States.
WHAT EVENTS DOES PAO SPONSOR?
Our main exhibitions are the Biennial Spirit of Pastel (SOP), our sponsored International Open Juried Exhibition, and our Membership Online Exhibition (MOX). In addition, we sponsor Regional Pop-Up Exhibitions, an annual Paint-Where-You-Are Event, demonstrations by world-class pastel artists at our quarterly General Membership Meetings, and other sponsored events as they arise throughout the year.
In conjunction with our exhibitions, we host workshops by internationally recognized pastel artists and teachers.
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED IN PAO ACTIVITIES?
Like all not-for-profit organizations, PAO runs on the energy and passion of its volunteer Board and other volunteers willing to take on projects both large and small. No matter where you live, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved according to your interests and availability.
There are a few key positions in which your participation can make a big impact. We also post volunteer opportunities in our quarterly newsletter, Pastel Palette.
HOW do i obtain signature and master pastelist membership status?
Signature Membership is granted to a member in good standing after the member has had (3) paintings (one per exhibition) accepted by the juror into a PAO Spirit of Pastel (SOP) International Open Juried Exhibition. Master Pastelist designation is granted to recipients of an award given by a judge from 3 different Spirit of Pastel Juried Exhibitions.
